But here’s the thing: everyone is focused on their own progress! It’s time to get out of your head and into the zone with our following tips on how to overcome gym anxiety:

Gym Anxiety Top Tips:

Don’t brave it alone: Hitting the gym with a friend, especially during your first few sessions, can make a huge difference. Whether they’re a fitness pro or just starting out, having someone familiar by your side can help ease the nerves and make it more fun.

Attend during quieter times: Start off by visiting the gym during off-peak hours when it’s less crowded. This gives you the space to get comfortable with the equipment and settle into the gym vibe at your own pace. Once you’ve built confidence, tackling busier times won’t feel as overwhelming.

Try an on-demand workout: No gym buddy? No problem. Our on-demand workouts allow you to train alongside our expert trainers, just like a live session, but on your own schedule! You'll get a visual guide for performing each movement correctly, helping you feel more confident and in control. Plus, having a trainer with you virtually means you won’t feel alone, even if you’re working out in the gym by yourself.

Breaking Down Equipment

Another element that can trigger gym anxiety is the variety of equipment - and not knowing how to use it. Don’t worry, it’s all about learning at your own pace.

Familiarise yourself: Our Learn tab within the app is packed with helpful video demos and articles that break down proper form, common mistakes, and how to use different gym equipment safely and effectively. It’s a fantastic resource that’s always available to you!

Ask a staff member: If you prefer hands-on help, don’t hesitate to ask a staff member to give you a quick tour of the gym - maybe even let them know your feelings around gym anxiety. Your safety comes first, so make sure you’re comfortable before jumping into your workout.

Start off simple: When you're new to working out, it's best to begin with simple movements before moving on to more complex machines. For instance, start by mastering your form with bodyweight squats. Once you're comfortable, progress to dumbbell squats, and eventually, you can incorporate the Smith machine for added resistance. This gradual progression helps you build confidence and ensures you have a solid foundation before trying more advanced equipment.

Remember, gym anxiety happens to everyone at some point on their fitness journey. The key to conquering it is being patient with yourself, and taking small steps each day. With time and consistency, your confidence will rocket.
